About Me - Sam Fenn-Johnston

I have a passion for geometric form as early in my career I focused on Graphic Design. After a few years I went onto the Glasgow School of Art to find out where I wished to focus my talent which lead me to be undertake a BA and finally an MA at Heriot Watt University to study Design for Textiles.

Luckily for me I attained a BA First Class Honours followed by an MA in printed and digital textiles with some great awards pre and post University.

  • First class Honours, Design for Textiles
  • Dr Oliver Award, Best Overall Final Year Design Student
  • London New Designers Harlequin Award
  • M.A Printed Textiles

It has been a bit of a roller coaster some of my work focused on specialising in digital printing, with design effects onto woven wools, including cashmere, wool silk, and voile to upholstery on Wexford linens.

Cashmere work was displayed at an exhibition in both China and Dubai, other woollen designs have been displayed at Spin Expo in both Shanghai and New York, silk to Australia and China with the finale of two of my wool delane designs "Windows' & "Shapes" winning the Harlequin Award.

My interest in digital print and woven wools has contributed to my success to date, like my passion of using architectural imagery as the primary research source. Designs are versatile, supported by the inspirational use of colour and trend, all reflected in the quality of finished fabrics.

I have now set up my own workshop/studio in the Scottish Borders, where I undertake all my creative work and commissions, exhibiting at events and fairs throughout the year, and would be delighted to welcome you for a vist, or a chat via e-mail or phone to see if I can compliment your home living with my creative talents.
